SLOW DRAINS & BLOCKAGES

Drain cleaning
in Portland.

Looking for a plumber for a slow sink, shower, or recurring drain clog in Portland? Compare drain clearing, access, and written charges before agreeing to a visit.

THE USEFUL DISTINCTION

Snaking works on an obstruction; hydrojetting uses water to clean buildup from pipe walls. A camera helps assess the line. Cleaning and repairing damaged pipe are separate jobs.

Which drain service should you request?

You can describe the symptom without choosing equipment. Use these questions to separate a fixture-drain request, a recurring backup, and a follow-up inspection. These are starting points for the service conversation, not a diagnosis.

If the proposed job is mainly investigation or damaged-pipe work, compare the sewer camera inspection and repair scope before approving a repair.

One slow fixture or several?

Start by listing the fixtures you have noticed: a kitchen sink, shower, toilet, or floor drain. A single slow fixture gives the provider a different starting point from water backing up at several fixtures. Neither description, by itself, proves where the obstruction sits.

Say whether water rises in one fixture while another is used, whether the problem is constant, and when it last drained normally. If the same drain was recently cleared, keep the earlier invoice or description of the method available.

Snaking, hydrojetting, and inspection

Mechanical clearing uses a cable and working head to address an obstruction. Hydrojetting uses pressurized water against buildup in the line. Camera inspection provides a view of the pipe; it does not itself clear or repair it.

Roto-Rooter’s Portland guidance describes using inspection to assess whether a pipe can tolerate jetting. Cleaning cannot restore a collapsed or damaged section. Ask what finding makes the proposed method suitable, especially before authorizing high-pressure work on a line whose condition is uncertain.

Have the estimate distinguish the initial clearing, any camera work, and a repair recommendation. The sewer-line service guide covers inspection findings and repair scopes.

Why a clog can come back

A returning symptom deserves a record of what was done and what was found. A cleared passage and a pipe whose underlying defect has been repaired are different outcomes. Ask whether the provider found removable material, a structural issue, or an unanswered question.

Request the inspection recording or written findings if included. For a recommendation to repeat cleaning, ask what evidence supports the interval. For a repair recommendation, ask for the location, defect, and scope rather than accepting “the line is old” as a complete explanation.

What to share before the visit

  • List each affected fixture and whether the problem repeats.
  • Describe any accessible cleanout you already know about; do not open a backed-up line yourself for this request.
  • Give the name of any drain product used so the attending provider knows.
  • Ask about access, the visit fee, the clearing method, and charges if the first approach does not resolve the problem.

Active sewage backup needs a provider that confirms it can respond. This website’s request form and voicemail are non-emergency intake; sending a message does not arrange attendance.

Common questions

Does every clog need hydrojetting?

No single method suits every drain. Ask what the proposed equipment is intended to remove and how the provider assessed the line’s condition. A higher-priced method should have an explained purpose.

Is a camera included in drain cleaning?

It depends on the written scope. Ask whether it is included, an add-on, or a separate visit, and whether you receive a recording or findings.

Does a cleared drain come with a guarantee?

Ask the attending provider about its written return-visit terms, exclusions, and the period covered. This website does not supply a drain-cleaning warranty.

Recurring clogs, camera checks and drain-cleaning charges

Why does a drain clog again after it has been snaked?

Opening a passage and addressing the reason it keeps blocking are different scopes. Ask what the first visit established and whether further inspection is needed. Describe how soon the problem returned and which fixtures are affected; do not assume another clearing or a full pipe replacement is automatically the right answer.

Should a sewer camera inspection happen before or after clearing?

Ask what each inspection is intended to establish. A blockage can limit what a camera can see; a follow-up inspection may help document the accessible line after clearing. Confirm access limits, whether both visits are priced, and whether a recording or written findings are supplied. Compare sewer-inspection deliverables.

Does hydrojetting repair a broken sewer pipe?

No. Water jetting is a cleaning method for deposits such as grease, soap and sludge; it does not replace damaged pipe. The provider should assess the line and choose suitable equipment before proposing cleaning. Ask for a separate repair scope if the findings identify a pipe defect.

How do I compare a drain-cleaning service price with an hourly jetting rate?

Compare the expected total and the same inclusions. One Portland provider publishes separate rates for small and trailer jetters and includes video inspection with its trailer service. Those are that provider’s terms, not this website’s prices. Ask about minimum time, access, diagnostic fees, inspection and return visits before authorizing work.
